|2020-21 HKFA Sapling Cup Group B – Kwoon Chung Southern 0:2 Happy Valley
Kwoon Chung Southern and Happy Valley met up on Saturday afternoon in Siu Sai Wai Sports Ground for a Sapling Cup Group B fixture. Goals from Luciano Da Silva and Chu Wai-kwan powered Happy Valley past Kwoon Chung Southern through a 2:0 victory.
Happy Valley went knocking on the Kwoon Chung Southern door early in the game. On the 8th minute, Chu Wai-kwan picked up the ball on the right wing and tried to test Kwoon Chung Southern keeper Choy Tsz-to with a long-range shot. However, Chu’s shot lacked power and was easily handled by the Kwoon Chung Southern custodian.
A few moments later, it was Kwoon Chung Southern’s turn, as Shu Sasaki belted a thunderous one-timer from the edge of the Happy Valley penalty area but missed finding the intended target.
Happy Valley had a glorious chance to break the game open on the 21st minute, as Lai Pui-kei connected with a teammate’s cross and sent a timely header towards the Kwoon Chung Southern goal, only to be rejected by the woodwork. Chu Wai-kwan tried to pounce on the rebound but sent the ball wide off goal. The game remained scoreless at this point.
It was still Happy Valley afterwards, as Mikael Severo broke behind the Kwoon Chung Southern defense on the right flank, fought off pressure from opposing defender Chan Kwong-pan and cut inside the box. The Brazilian managed to fire a tight-angle shot but saw his effort sensationally charged away by goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to.
Past the half-hour mark, Happy Valley came up with a solid chance to break the game open. Marco Cheung found daylight on the right side of the Kwoon Chung Southern box and unloaded a powerful shot towards the Kwoon Chung Southern goal, only to be paved away by goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to at the near-post.
Happy Valley finally drew first blood of the game on the 32nd minute, as Lai Pui Kei’s corner-kick was met by skipper Luciano Da Silva. The Happy Valley captain sent a thunderous header towards goal, beating goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to in the process and found the back of the net, putting Happy Valley in front 1:0.
Kwoon Chung Southern almost tied the game on the 42nd minute. Kota Kawase found himself on the receiving end of a teammate’s long throw-in and nodded the ball towards the Happy Valley goal. Goalkeeper To Chun-kiu went fully stretched and paved the ball away through a spectacular save.
Late in the first half, Kwoon Chung Southern new signing Matthew Cahill was brought down inside the box by Happy Valley’s Lam Hin-ting. The referee quickly awarded Kwoon Chung Southern a penalty-shot. Stefan Pereira assumed the spot-kick duty but sent the ball over the Happy Valley crossbar. Kwoon Chung Southern was down by a goal heading into half time.
Happy Valley generated the first scoring chance in the second half. On the 56th minute, Lai Pui-kei knocked a well-placed corner-kick into the Kwoon Chung Southern penalty area. Luciano Da Silva went flying in but headed the ball over the crossbar.
Happy Valley expanded its lead on the 58th minute, when a slick buildup saw Chu Wai-kwan losing his marker outside the Kwoon Chung Southern box, then made a great run forward before firing the ball into the net. Happy Valley was up 2:0 at this point.
It was still Happy Valley afterwards. On the 70th minute, Jahangir Khan found himself wide open on the left side of the Kwoon Chung Southern penalty area and fired away, only to be denied by goalkeeper Choy Tsz-to.
On the 80th minute, Kwoon Chung Southern nearly pulled one back. Shu Sasaki knocked a deep cross towards the Happy Valley danger area. Kota Kawase met the ball at the back-post and sent a timely header towards goal, only to be cleared away by Happy Valley midfielder Charlie Scott.
Happy Valley almost added another goal on the 83rd minute, as substitute Rasaq Adegbite’s shot from inside the Kwoon Chung Southern box was turned aside by Choy Tsz-to in goal. The young Kwoon Chung Southern shot-stopper was certainly having a busy day.
Late in the game, Kwoon Chung Southern’s Stefan Pereira tried to get his side on the scoreboard, only to send his lobbing shot from outside the Happy Valley box well off target.
The 2:0 score stood towards the final whistle, as Happy Valley went on and defeated Kwoon Chung Southern.
