2020-21 Sapling Cup Semi-final Eastern Long Lions vs Kitchee 2021-02-24

Eastern Long Lions will take on old nemesis Kitchee on Wednesday evening in Mong Kok Stadium. The match will go underway at 19:00.

Eastern Long Lions wrapped up the group-stage by claiming the pole position in Group B. The high-flying side managed to score a whopping seventeen goals in six group matches, easily the highest scoring side amongst the eight premier league teams in the competition. With two more goals scored by sharp shooter Alessandro Leonardo on the weekend, Eastern Long Lions’ attacking trio of Leonardo, Everton Camargo and Lucas Da Silva have now been responsible for thirteen of the team’s seventeen goals in this season’s Sapling Cup tournament, making them a dangerous force to be reckoned with. New additions Jared Lum and Luis Chebel seem to be settling into their new surrounding nicely and should continue to do well in the Eastern Long Lions lineup.

Kitchee advanced to the Sapling Cup semi-final by finishing second in Group A. The side has practically the same points as eventual group-winner Lee Man but narrowly missed out on the top spot of Group A through goal-difference. Matthew Orr added two more goals to his name over the weekend, giving the young Kitchee forward eight goals in six Sapling Cup outings, thus making Orr the leading scorer so far in this season’s competition. While Orr might be understandably garnering all the media spotlight, young guns such as Sohgo Ichikawa, Barak Braunshtain and Chan Shinichi have continued to impress with some extremely mature displays on the pitch. Youth has certainly been serving Kitchee very well in this season’s Sapling Cup and the youngsters could very well hold the keys to Kitchee’s winning chances on Wednesday evening.
