BC Rangers took on Happy Valley in Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground on Sunday afternoon for the latest fixture in the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League. Both sides traded goals back and forth and eventually settled on a 2:2 draw after ninety frantic minutes of game-action.
BC Rangers generated the first scoring chance of the game on the 8th minute. Lam Ka-wai delivered a teasing cross into the Happy Valley box. Debutant Augusto Da Silva applied a delicate header but could not find the target with his effort.
It was still BC Rangers afterwards. On the 20th minute, veteran midfielder Lam Ka-wai sent a cheeky, curling free-kick towards the Happy Valley goal. Goalkeeper To Chun-kiu proved equal to the task and paved the ball away smartly.
Moments later, BC Rangers was at it again, as Lam Ka-wai floated a teasing cross into the Happy Valley penalty area. BC Rangers defender Fernando Alcantara dished out a leaping header but sent the ball wide off the Happy Valley goal.
It was actually Happy Valley that went on and opened the score on the 22nd minute. Yuen Sai-kit picked the pocket of BC Rangers defender Fernando Alcantara and darted into the box with the ball. Yuen kept his composure, slotted the ball past goalkeeper Li Yat-chun and found the back of the BC Rangers net. Happy Valley suddenly found itself in front.
Past the half hour mark, BC Rangers duly offered a reply and tied the game. A series of pressure from the BC Rangers attackers kept the ball pinned inside the Happy Valley box. Junior Soares found himself with the ball inside the Happy Valley penalty area and pulled the trigger, sending the ball into the net and tying the game at 1:1.
BC Rangers nearly went ahead on the 43rd minute, as midfielder Douglas Marques unloaded a ferocious free-kick straight towards the Happy Valley goal, only to be turned away by goalkeeper To Chun-kiu.
The pace of the match went slightly slower in the second half and the next scoring chance did not occur until the 60th minute. Robert Odu picked up the ball through a teammate’s tape-measured forward pass, darted into the box and fired a quick shot that hit the back of the net. Happy Valley was up once again.
On the 62nd minute, BC Rangers nearly drew level, as Lam Ka-wai floated another dangerous free-kick deep into the Happy Valley box. The ball looked set to find the Happy Valley goal, only to hit the woodwork at the very last moment and went out of play.
Shortly afterwards, BC Rangers’ Lo Kwan-yee belted a thunderous strike from the right wing but was spectacularly turned away by Happy Valley goalkeeper To Chun-kiu. On the other end, Happy Valley’s Poon Pui-hin made his way into the BC Rangers box with a superb solo effort before smashing away, only to be denied by BC Rangers goalkeeper Li Yat-chun. Both sides were trading chances at this point.
On the 75th minute, BC Rangers equalized for the second time in the game, as Yiu Ho-ming unloaded from the edge of the Happy Valley box and found the back of the net. The game was now tied at 2:2.
BC Rangers almost went in front late in the game. On the 82nd minute, the lively Lam Ka-wai knocked another dangerous cross into the Happy Valley penalty area. Junior Soares applied a surging header but was turned away by goalkeeper To Chun-kiu. The score remained tied at 2:2.
Both sides failed to add to the score in the remaining regulation time, as BC Rangers and Happy Valley eventually shook hands on a 2:2 draw.
