|2020-21 Sapling Cup Group A - BC Rangers 1:1 Lee Man
BC Rangers and Lee Man met up on Wednesday evening in Mongkok Stadium for the latest Sapling Cup Group A fixture. Goals from Lam Hok Hei and Leong Ka Hang cancelled out each other, as BC Rangers and Lee Man shook hands on a 1:1 draw.
BC Rangers came up with the first shot of the game on the 9th minute. Winger Lau Chi-lok decided to try his luck with a long range shot down the right flank. Lau’s shot took a deflection off a Lee Man player and was easily smothered by goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun.
BC Rangers nearly broke in front and opened the score on the 19th minute. Youngster Leo Chow delivered a sweet free-kick into the Lee Man box. Centre-back Fernando Alcantara found himself unmarked and duly dished out a surging header that went just wide off the Lee Man goal.
Lee Man came up with a rare scoring chance on the 26th minute. BC Rangers goalkeeper Oleksii Shliakotin punched away a Lee Man corner-kick. The ball somehow fell for Lee Man’s Tsang Kam-to, who unloaded a cracking volley that was spectacularly pushed aside by Shliakotin.
On the 32nd minute, BC Rangers had a splendid chance to open the score. Veteran Lam Ka-wai dished out a sweet forward pass and sent Lau Chi-lok loose down the left wing. Lau broke into the Lee Man box and fired away, only to witness his shot sensationally denied by Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun.
Shortly afterwards, BC Rangers generated another scoring opportunity. This time, Lau Chi-lok broke loose down the right wing and was virtually one-on-one against Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun. Lau unleashed a low drive but could not get his shot past the well-positioned Yuen Ho-chun in net.
On the other end, Lee Man immediately fired back, as striker Michael N’dri belted a curler from outside the BC Rangers box. Unfortunately for the Frenchman, his shot was comfortably handled by BC Rangers goalkeeper Oleksii Shliakotin. The 0:0 score eventually stood towards the half time whistle.
Lee Man generated an early scoring chance in the second half. On the 47th minute, Tang Hong-yin flew down the right wing and knocked a low cross towards the middle. A BC Rangers player tried to clear the ball away but did not knock it far enough. Lee Man’s Tam Lok-hin found himself wide open and drilled a running shot towards goal but sent the ball over the crossbar.
Afterwards, BC Rangers’ Wong Chun-hin and Tang Tsz-kwan both tested the Lee Man defense with dangerous strikes, yet Lee Man goalkeeper Yuen Ho-chun stood tall and pulled out solid saves on both occasions.
Lee Man finally managed to break the stalemate on the 55th minute. Forward Leong Ka-hang showed great speed down the left flank and chased down a teammate’s forward pass. The Lee Man striker then cheekily flicked the ball past BC Rangers goalkeeper Oleksii Shliakotin and found the back of the net. Lee Man was up 1:0.
On the 61st minute, Lee Man had a decent chance to pull further in front. However, Chang Hei-yin’s curling free-kick went narrowly wide off the BC Rangers goal.
Lee Man kept the pressure coming and generated another scoring chance. On the 69th minute, Chang Hei-yin’s corner-kick found Rinson Lau inside the BC Rangers penalty area. Lau sent a leaping header towards the net but could not hit the intended target.
It was still Lee Man afterwards. On the 71st minute, Yu Pui-hong seized the opportunity near the top of the BC Rangers box and sent a sweet right-footer towards goal. BC Rangers goalkeeper Oleksii Shliakotin flashed out a smart one-hand save and pushed the ball out of play.
In stoppage time, BC Rangers’ Chan Lik-hang’s delivered a sweet cross that was headed home by Lam Hok-hei from the Lee Man doorstep. The game was now tied at 1:1.
The 1:1 score stood towards the final whistle, as BC Rangers and Lee Man shook hands on a well-fought draw.
