Happy Valley and Kitchee met up in Mongkok Stadium on a glorious Sunday afternoon for one of the three BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixtures of the day. A hat-trick performance by Wellingsson De Souza, as well as a lone goal from Manu Gavilan, saw Kitchee defeating Happy Valley 4:0. The three valuable points picked up by Kitchee on the day saw the side overtaking Eastern Long Lions in the premier league table and landing the BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League crown.
Kitchee fired the first shot of the game on the 8th minute, as Cleiton De Oliveira picked up the ball well outside the Happy Valley box, then dribbled forward before ripping a shot that sailed wide off target.
The game became a stalemate afterwards and the next scoring chance did not occur until the 24th minute. Kitchee’s Cheng Chin-lung sent Huang Yang through down the left flank. Huang managed to knock a low cross towards the middle. Nikola Komazec pounced on the ball with a quick-shot, Happy Valley goalkeeper To Chun-kiu was cleanly beaten, yet Luciano Da Silva managed to clear the ball off the goal-line.
On the half-hour mark, Happy Valley generated a half-decent chance to open the score. Wong Ho-yin swung a high cross towards the Kitchee danger area. Teammate Wong Chi-hong applied a leaping header but saw his effort easily claimed by Kitchee goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng.
Shortly afterwards, Kitchee’s Nikola Komazec and Cheng Chin-lung both had chances to break the game open, yet their respective headers both failed to hit the intended target.
On the 35th minute, Happy Valley came up with a rare scoring opportunity. Yuen Sai-kit righted himself down the right wing and pulled the trigger. Unfortunately for the Happy Valley attacker, his shot failed to threaten the well-positioned Kitchee goalkeeper Wang Zhenpeng.
Kitchee drew first blood of the game on the 36th minute. Huang Yang picked out Manu Gavilan down the right side with a neat pass. The latter pushed forward and unleashed a low drive. The ball somehow trickled underneath Happy Valley goalkeeper To Chun-kiu’s out-stretched arm and entered the net, giving Kitchee a one-goal lead.
Right before half-time, Kitchee almost netted its second goal of the game. Chan Shinichi managed to delivery a teasing cross towards the middle. Several Happy Valley players failed to clear the ball away, allowing Manu Gavilan to fire an acrobatic shot towards goal. Unfortunately for the Kitchee forward, his shot went wide off target.
Kitchee went knocking on the Happy Valley door early in the second half. On the 55th minute, Chan Shinichi’s swirling free-kick from the right wing hit the Happy Valley crossbar and bounced out of play.
On the 59th minute, Kitchee managed to double its lead. Manu Gavilan picked out a darting Wellingsson De Souza through the far side of the Happy Valley penalty area with a tape-measured pass. The latter went sliding in and knocked the ball towards the Happy Valley goal. The ball hit the goal-post and then entered the net. It was now 2:0 for Kitchee.
Kitchee kept the goals coming and scored again on the 63rd minute, as Cheng Chin-lung’s tasty forward pass was picked up by a surging Wellingsson De Souza. The Kitchee forward drilled a running shot towards the Happy Valley goal and hit the back of the net with authority. Kitchee was well in front with a 3:0 lead.
It was still Kitchee afterwards. On the 65th minute, Chan Shinichi’s corner-kick found Helio Goncalves at the back-post. The Kitchee defender then nodded the ball towards the Happy Valley goal-mouth. Wellingsson De Souza seized the opportunity and blasted the ball home, making it 4:0 in the process.
On the 88th minute, Kitchee’s Wellingsson De Souza went for his fourth goal of the game with a long range shot outside the Happy Valley penalty area. However, Happy Valley goalkeeper Ng Wai-him had other ideas and easily smothered the shot.
Deep in stoppage time, Kitchee came up with another scoring chance, as Wellingsson De Souza sent Cleiton De Oliveira into the Happy Valley box. The latter pulled the trigger but saw his shot charged away by goalkeeper Ng Wai-him.
The score stood towards the final whistle, as Kitchee went on to defeat Happy Valley by 4:0.
