Eastern Long Lions squared off against R&F in Hong Kong Stadium on Sunday afternoon for a high-profile BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League fixture. Both sides traded scoring chances throughout the match but simply could not breakdown the opponent, eventually settling on a 0:0 draw.
R&F wasted no time and started asking Eastern Long Lions questions early in the game. On the 5th minute, R&F’s Serge Deble took aim with a long-range drive from outside the Eastern Long Lions box but fired the ball wide.
It was Eastern Long Lions’ turn on the 11th minute, as Everton Camargo gained ball-possession and ignited an Eastern Long Lions counter-attack. The Brazilian then found teammate Lee Ka-yiu on the right side, who duly let rip but could not get his shot past R&F goalkeeper Zhou Yuchen.
R&F came up with another scoring chance on the 17th minute, as Matthew Lam’s free-kick located a surging Luis Chebel. The latter dished out a dangerous header but could not hit the target with his effort.
R&F nearly found the opening goal on the 30th minute, as Lo Kwan-yee’s shot looked set to hit the top corner of the Eastern Long Lions goal, only to be turned away by a brilliant save from goalkeeper Yapp Hung-fai. Eastern Long Lions dodged a bullet on the occasion.
However, it was still R&F afterwards. On the 42nd minute, Serge Deble found daylight outside the Eastern Long Lions penalty area but once again blasted his long-range shot off the intended target. The game was goalless heading into half-time.
Both sides continued to press hard for the opening goal in the second half. On the 54th minute, R&F’s Igor Sartori connected with a teammate’s centering pass and fired away, only to send his shot over the Eastern Long Lions crossbar.
On the other end, Eastern Long Lions’ Everton Camargo worked together with his teammates and penetrated the R&F defense. Camargo seized the opportunity, unloaded a timely shot but saw his effort tipped over the crossbar by R&F goalkeeper Zhou Yuchen.
Later on, Eastern Long Lions generated yet another scoring chance. This time, Joao Emir’s free-kick fell into the path of Everton Camargo, who duly smashed the ball over the R&F net.
On the 65th minute, R&F’s Serge Deble found enough space down the right wing and knocked a great cross towards the middle. Igor Sartori managed to fire away but sent the ball wide.
Around the 80th minute, Eastern Long Lions had successive chances to break the game open, yet shots from Everton Camargo and Eduardo Praes both failed to beat R&F goalkeeper Zhou Yuchen.
On the 90th minute, Eastern Long Lions almost netted the winner, as Chung Wai-keung showed off his blazing speed before unleashing a shot, only to be denied by R&F custodian Zhou Yuchen once again.
Deep in stoppage time, R&F’s Luis Chebel picked up his second yellow card of the game and his subsequent marching order. R&F was down to ten men.
The 0:0 score stood towards the final whistle, as Eastern Long Lions and R&F shook hands on a goalless draw to wrap up the season.
