Eastern Long Lions battled Hong Kong Pegasus in Tseung Kwan O Sports Ground on Saturday afternoon for a FA Cup semi-final clash. Eastern Long Lions shutout Hong Kong Pegasus with a commanding 5:0 victory and punched its ticket for the FA Cup final.
Eastern Long Lions got off to a perfect start in the game. On the 4th minute, Everton Camargo pushed forward down the left-wing, then knocked the ball into the Hong Kong Pegasus box. Alessandro Leonardo took control of the ball, then fired a right-footer that found its way into the net. Eastern Long Lions were up with an early lead.
Hong Kong Pegasus had a great chance to tie the game on the 15th minute. Kwok Tsz-kaai dug the ball towards the goal-mouth from the left-side. Chan Pak-hang latched out a quick-shot from the Eastern Long Lions doorstep, only to see his shot blocked away by defender Eduardo Praes.
It was back to Eastern Long Lions’ turn afterwards. On the 22nd minute, Chan Hao-wei pulled the trigger on a low drive from outside the Hong Kong Pegasus penalty area but was smartly smothered by keeper Leung Hing-kit.
Hong Kong generated a half-decent chance to draw level on the 29th minute. David Zana picked up the ball near the half-way line, then pushed forward and dodged several tackles, before ripping a shot that sailed over the Eastern Long Lions crossbar.
Shortly afterwards, Eastern Long Lions came close to doubling its lead. Everton Camargo swung a teasing corner-kick into the Hong Kong Pegasus box. Diego Moreira went flying in with a diving header but could not find the target with his effort.
It was still Eastern Long Lions afterwards. On the 38th minute, Eastern Long Lions ignited a dangerous counter-attack, with Lucas Da Silva darting down the left-wing. The burly striker then fired a powerful low drive but could not get past Hong Kong Pegasus goalkeeper Leung Hing-kit.
Eastern Long Lions started the second half strongly and came up with another scoring chance. On the 48th minute, Chan Hao-wei whipped a low cross towards the middle. Lucas Da Silva gained possession of the ball inside the box, then spun and fired but could not beat goalkeeper Leung Hing-kit.
On the 55th minute, Eastern Long Lions managed to double its lead, as a Hong Kong Pegasus player committed hand-ball inside his own box, leaving the referee little choice but to award Eastern Long Lions with a penalty shot. Everton Camargo took the spot-kick and found the back of the net. Eastern Long Lions were up 2:0 at this point.
Moments later, Hong Kong Pegasus had a great chance to pull one back, as Kwok Tsz-kaai picked out teammate Shu Sasaki with a fine cross. The Japanese forward pulled the trigger from inside the box but was turned away by a sprawling one-hand save from keeper Yapp Hung-fai.
On the 69th minute, Eastern Long Lions nearly added to its lead. Lucas Da Silva sprung Alessandro Leonardo loose down the right-side of the Hong Kong Pegasus box. Leonardo unleashed a cracking tight-angle shot, only to be paved away by a flying Leung Hing-kit in the Hong Kong Pegasus goal.
However, Eastern Long Lions were not to be denied and made it 3:0 on the 70th minute. Everton Camargo sent an accurate corner-kick into the Hong Kong Pegasus penalty area and found Alessandro Leonardo. The latter timed his jump perfectly and nodded the ball home with ease.
On the 86th minute, Joao Emir’s corner-kick found teammate Clayton Afonso inside the Hong Kong Pegasus penalty area. The Eastern Long Lions defender applied a towering header and scored. It was 4:0 with Eastern Long Lions in front.
Eastern Long Lions were not done on scoring. On the 90th minute, Everton Camargo unleashed a spectacular drive from the right-wing and found the back of the net, giving Hong Kong Pegasus goalkeeper Leung Hing-kit absolutely no chance. The score was now 5:0 with Eastern Long Lions in full control.
The 5:0 score stood unchanged towards the final whistle, as Eastern Long Lions eased past Hong Kong Pegasus and punched its ticket for the FA Cup final.
