Hong Kong Pegasus met up with BC Rangers on Friday afternoon in Jockey Club HKFA Football Training Centre Pitch No. 3 for a Sapling Cup Group A clash. Hong Kong Pegasus and BC Rangers combined for twelve goals in the match but it was Hong Kong Pegasus that came out on top, eventually beating BC Rangers through a 9:3 score.
Hong Kong Pegasus went knocking on the BC Rangers door early in the game. On the 6th minute, Lee Oi-hin connected with a teammate’s centering-pass and went sliding in in the BC Rangers goal-mouth. Lee managed to redirect the ball towards goal but could not hit the target with his effort.
Hong Kong Pegasus drew first blood of the game on the 14th minute. Law Hiu-chung made a great run with the ball and reached the top of the BC Rangers box. Law unloaded but saw his shot hitting a BC Rangers player. The ball somehow fell in front of Awal Mahama, who duly buried his chance and smashed the ball into the net. Hong Kong Pegasus was up by a goal.
BC Rangers drew level on the 20th minute. Tse Wai-chun floated a teasing free-kick into the Hong Kong Pegasus penalty area. Stefan Pereira timed his jump perfectly and nodded the ball home with ease. The game was now tied at 1:1.
It was still BC Rangers afterwards. On the 23rd minute, Leandro Basan pushed forward with the ball before loading up and firing a bouncing shot towards the Hong Kong Pegasus net. Hong Kong Pegasus goalkeeper Law King-hei stood his ground and pushed the ball away through a sprawling save, successfully defusing the danger.
BC Rangers then took the lead on the 31st minute. Tse Wai-chun curled a sweet corner-kick into the Hong Kong Pegasus front-post. Stefan Pereira was in great position and duly headed the ball into the Hong Kong Pegasus net. BC Rangers now had the lead.
On the 51st minute, Hong Kong Pegasus tied the game. Lee Hoi-hin’s shot from inside the box took a deflection off a BC Rangers player and found Awal Mahama. The latter duly obliged and fired the ball home, tying the game at 2:2.
BC Rangers went in front again on the 56th minute. A sweet one-two combination between Stefan Pereira and Leandro Basan saw Pereira surging into the box with the ball. Basan put on a clinical finish and poked the ball into the Hong Kong Pegasus net. BC Rangers was back in front.
Hong Kong Pegasus equalized on the 60th minute, as youngster Lee Oi-hin connected with a teammate’s forward pass, stretched out his leg inside the BC Rangers penalty area and guided the ball home. The score was now 3:3.
Hong Kong Pegasus went ahead on the 71st minute, as Chan Siu-ki found himself on the receiving end of a teammate’s cross and sent a towering header into the back of the BC Rangers net. It was now 4:3 with Hong Kong Pegasus back in front.
Chan Siu-ki made it 5:3 for Hong Kong Pegasus on the 73rd minute, as the veteran striker belted a curling shot that lobbed over BC Rangers goalkeeper Chow Kwan-chun and entered the net.
The goals kept coming for Hong Kong Pegasus. On the 75th minute, Awal Mahama had the ball in control inside the BC Rangers box, then found teammate Shu Sasaki at the far-post. The Japanese striker took care of the rest and slotted the ball home, making it 6:3.
It became 7:3 for Hong Kong Pegasus on the 79th minute, as Chan Wai-ho connected with a teammate’s corner-kick and headed the ball home.
The onslaught continued, as Hong Kong Pegasus made it 8:3 on the 84th minute. This time, Shu Sasaki’s cross found a surging Chan Wai-ho inside the box. The Hong Kong Pegasus defender buried his chance and fired the ball into the BC Rangers net.
Late in the game, a BC Rangers player committed a foul inside his own box. The referee quickly pointed to the penalty-spot. Hong Kong Pegasus’ Law Hiu-chung took care of the spot-kick and found the back of the net. The score was now 9:3.
The score stood towards the final whistle, as Hong Kong Pegasus beat BC Rangers by 9:3.
