|Wofoo Tai Po, R&F, Kitchee and Lee Man gather for midweek Sapling Cup action
Wofoo Tai Po and R&F are due to meet up in Mongkok Stadium on Tuesday evening for a Sapling Cup Group B fixture. Kickoff time for the Group B battle is set for 8:00pm.
Wofoo Tai Po will be making its Sapling Cup debut of the season on Tuesday evening. While the side might still be looking for its first victory of the season in all competitions, the New Territories side has nevertheless proved that it is not an easy foe, as shown by its two league draws against Eastern Long Lions and Kitchee. Lanky striker Alessandro Leonardo has scored in every single match for Wofoo Tai Po so far this season and his dazzling form in front of the opposing goal will be crucial to Wofoo Tai Po’s winning chances.
After losing its opening Sapling Cup Group B fixture against Kwoon Chung Southern, R&F finds itself currently occupying the basement position in the group. The ambitious mainland side is hungry for silverware and there is no doubt that R&F will be coming out strong against Wofoo Tai Po on Tuesday night. As a matter of fact, R&F is fresh off an eight-goal trashing against Best Union Yuen Long and will be desperate to make it two wins in a row. Youngsters, including goalkeeper Tse Ka-wing and forward Adriel Chan, are R&F prospects to watch out for.
On Wednesday night, Kitchee will take on Lee Man in Mongkok Stadium for a Sapling Cup Group A fixture. The match will go underway at 7:00pm.
Kitchee is set to embark on its latest Sapling Cup adventure on Tuesday night and standing on its way will be Lee Man. After winning the premier league season-opener in late August, the Shek Mun-based club has drawn its past two league games and is seeking to snap its mini winless streak. Summer-signing Manuel Bleda leads the team with two goals so far this season, yet the rest of the side will need to step up in order for the league powerhouse to get back on the winning track. Young guns such as Shinichi Chan and Barak Braunshtain are full of potential and it remains to be seen whether the duo will be given the opportunity to prove themselves against Lee Man.
Similar to Kitchee, reigning Sapling Cup champion Lee Man will be making its first appearance in the competition this season on Wednesday night. The much-improved side has been flying high so far this season, currently occupying one of the front-running spots in the premier league standing. Star striker Michael N’dri recently collected the first BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League Monthly MVP award of the season and his sizzling form is sure to put the Kitchee defense under pressure on Wednesday evening. Enterprising defender Yu Wai-lim continues to develop well and should assume an important role in the Lee Man lineup on Wednesday evening.
