2018-19 Jockey Club Women’s League FA Cup Knockout Stage semi-finals kicked off on Saturday evening in Tsang Tai Uk Recreation Ground. Citizen was firing on all cylinders on the evening and toppled HKFC through a 9:0 victory, advancing to the final.

Citizen dominated the proceedings right from the get-go. Attacker Wai Yuen-ting hit the scoreboard on the 14th and the 20nd minute, quickly giving Citizen a two-goal lead. Afterwards, Cheung Wai-ki and Heidi Yuen added their names to the scoresheet, giving their side a four-goal cushion. Late in the first-half, Cheung Wai-ki netted two more goals to make it a 6:0 lead for Citizen entering the break.

After the interval, Citizen continued to enjoy the upper-hand, as goals from Cheung Wai-ki (two goals) and Wai Yuen-ting eventually sealed a 9:0 victory for Citizen.

Lively Citizen forward Wai Yuen-ting admits the score line on the evening is beyond expectations.

“We never thought we would advance to the final through such a score line, as we got lucky on several of our goals. All in all, the victory is bound to help our confidence level,” Wai expressed.

“With Kitchee now standing between us and the FA Cup trophy, I believe details such as matchday performance and mental toughness will decide the outcome in the finale.”

HKFC SHORT, Imogen Frances believes Citizen’s overall teamwork and chemistry were better than HKFC and that was the key to winning and losing on the evening.

“As a team, we have performed better in the FA Cup than in the league this season. However, we were still very much aware that we would be the underdogs for this game,” offered the HKFC veteran.

“Citizen has been playing as a team for many years and they had more practices than us. I thought we worked hard, battled hard and the outcome was what it was.”
