2018-2019 Jockey Club Futsal League FA Cup (Round 1) - League Update 2019-05-15

Jockey Club Futsal League FA Cup (Round 1) entered the quarter-final stage on Monday evening, with Sai Kung and Kowloon City squaring off in the curtain-raiser. Sai Kung’s offensive prowess was on full display and ended up beating Kowloon City 5:2 on the evening, earning a spot in the semi-final.

Four minutes into the game, Sai Kung’s Leung Hon-fai fired a low-drive and found the back of the net, putting his side in front. Afterwards, Kowloon City’s Lee Ka-king smashed a tight-angle shot home and tied the game at 1:1. Late in the first half, a smooth Sai Kung buildup saw Lui Chi-fung finishing things off with a fine strike, making it 2:1 for Sai Kung entering the break.

In the second half, Lui Chi-fung connected with a teammate’s corner-kick and blasted the ball home, making it 3:1 in the process. Later on, Kowloon City fought back through a Lok Chit-fung strike and the score became 3:2. However, Sai Kung’s Lui Chi-fung and Lin Chi-shing both scored late in the game, sending Sai Kung past Kowloon City through an eventual 5:2 victory.

Sai Kung skipper Leung Hon-fai, who opened the score for the New Territories side, admitted the victory turned out to be a closer than expected battle.

“Several of our key players were unable to attend the match and a few of the players who played in the game seemed to be too nervous, contributing to a much-closer and tougher game than expected,” Leung said.

Kowloon City captain Lok Chit-fung attributed the team’s disappointing defeat to mistakes on the pitch.

“Even though we only had six players for the game, the players who did show up were determined to buckle down and to give Sai Kung a run for its money,” Lok expressed.

“However, we seemed to be too anxious on the pitch and committed a lot of errors, giving the opponent numerous chances to come at us.”

In the other FA Cup (Round 1) fixtures, Beauty Pool Football Union lost to Qiyi Hanstti Football Club by 0:1; Kwok Keung edged GFC Friends by 1:0; Central & Western defeated Jardine Sports Association by 3:2.
